Business Owners: 3 Things your customers EXPECT
With an ever-changing
tech and social landscape, consumers are demanding more from businesses that
provide a service or a product. This article will explain the items your
business should focus on to satisfy current consumer needs.
Customers
want to be able to view your product/service and understand why it’s special with
the least amount of effort, that is why it is ever so important to tailor your
message appropriately. Understand who the high-value market is for your
product/service and really understand
why they would choose your product or service. The way you tailor your message
can be drastically different based on the product/service you are providing. I’ll
share an example with you. If you have a tech product like a laptop, it is
important that you really understand the market. Your message would differ greatly
between a high-powered gaming laptop and an everyday laptop. For the gaming
laptop, you would want to highlight certain specs that gamers care about; the
processor, video card, etc. For the everyday laptop, you would want to highlight
the weight, screen size and the price (if it’s low).
Now that
you know you have to tailor your message appropriately, you’re ready to satisfy
all consumers right? Nope. They EXPECT more.
The way we
read or researched a product/service has changed drastically over the last
10-15 years. We could watch an ad on TV, hear it on the radio, read it on a
flyer or see it on the web. One thing you’ll notice is that all of these
experiences are quite distinct. Sure these all exist today, but we (humans)
prefer choosing our own experience without losing quality. It kind of makes us
feel in control. Almost every person you know has either a laptop, a smartphone or a tablet in 2019. Some have all three. You ever open a website on your
laptop, start reading it and then save it for later and open it later on your
smartphone? How was the experience? If you said the exact same, you’re right.
Guess what? We EXPECT this. Your website better
read the exact same regardless of the platform it’s on. Your video better load and be capable to be viewed
full screen regardless of the device. Customers want the same experience, regardless
of the technology they are using.
You’re
probably thinking: Cool, so if I tailor my message correctly and provide a
consistent experience it's smooth sailing? Almost.
The last
item that customers expect from your product/service is for it to adapt to
the market. This is a tough one for many businesses. It takes a concerted effort
to keep up with trends, and if you’re profitable the motivation to do so isn’t
there. Listening to your market will provide insight on how they feel about
your type of product/service, this can be done quite easily using Twitter. By
adapting to the market’s need, you will establish a brand that truly cares
about their customers.
Too long didn’t
read? Here are three points:
· Know Your Customer – Tailor your message using language that your market understands. If customer's don't understand it right away, you've lost.
· Provide Seamless Experiences – If you have a webpage today, ensure
it sends the same message of your brand across all types of devices.
· Adapt and Adjust – The market knows what they want, listen to them and adapt your
product/service accordingly.
